Community Creating Change

We are Hands Up Mallee

Hands Up Mallee is a place-based, community-led initiative in north-west Victoria, situated on Latji Latji Country. We believe local people are best placed to understand what’s working, what’s needed, and what matters most. By working together with community, government, and service partners, we harness local strengths, knowledge, and leadership to create lasting change.

Our vision reflects our community’s aspiration: a connected community, where children and young people thrive, and families matter.

Case Studies

We help communities pilot new ideas and service providers to deliver programs and services to better meet community needs. We measure impact not just with traditional metrics, but by broader shifts in relationships, perspectives and ways of working. These three case studies formed the foundation of our 2025 Mid-term Evaluation Report, and they provide powerful examples of HUM’s community-led approach in action. Our Team

A co-designed team structure

Hands Up Mallee has a unique collective governance structure that was purpose built to bring together a diverse group of people to make decisions together. Our structure is made up of the Collaborative Governance Group, Yarning Group and the Backbone team. Our co-design structure reflects the broader perspectives and expertise of the communities we work with.

They (Hands Up Mallee) embed Aboriginal community voices and cultural awareness in their work. They work with us the right way.
